- Unlike most knit patterns, where you have to get the exact stitch and row gauges that the pattern was written for and use a different number of stitches and rows to achieve different sizes.

For this pattern it is the different yarn weight and needle sizes used, to obtain various gauges, which determine the finished sizes. Because sleeves can be a little trickier. I am offering, at no extra charge, a free custom sleeve pattern.

Regardless of the finished size of the sweater, the pattern is worked with 153 stitches for the front and back and a total of 222 rows in order to accommodate all the mini sweaters.

The sample is knit in a DK weight yarn with the gauge of 25 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches-(10 cm) on a size 4-(3.5 mm) needle. The sample has a finished bust measurement of 49 inches and the length, from the shoulders, is 24.5 inches-(124.4 cm).

Regardless of body measurements, everyone prefers a different finished look. It is helpful to use the “measurements of the finished garment” to decide which size to make. The following measurements refer to this specific garment only. It can help you find the best look you prefer.

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE
Rowan Yarns—Classic Cashsoft dk
57% extra fine merino—33% acrylic microfiber—10% cashmere
1.75 ounces-(
50 grams)           142 yards-(130 m) each ball

14 balls MAIN COLOR (MC) approximately 2000-(1828.8 meters)
14 yards (13m) of 21 Contrasting Colors (CC) for each mini sweater
small amounts of yarn to embellish the mini sweaters

FINGERING WEIGHT YARN: approximately 2500 yards-(2286 meters)

Note: The contrasting color yarns (good use for your stash) must be the same weight and must have the same laundering instructions as the main color. If you are not sure of the laundering instructions, you have for the mini sweaters, you will be safe if you wash the sweater by hand, and dry flat—test for colorfastness, even if the main color yarn is machine washable.

For your pullover to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important. It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.
