women's cardigan 5 - lauren

A RUNWAY INSPIRATION

woman_sweater_lauren

DESIGN DETAILS
- Oversized cardigan with slightly dropped shoulders
- Faced shawl collar
- Set-in sleeve
- American Southwest vibe
- Faux leather embellishment

PATTERN DETAILS - the easy to follow pattern includes:
- Schematic for each piece
- A concise tracking/color stripe chart
- Diagrams and full explanations for techniques
- A link for substitute yarn and other options
- I wrote the pattern in two sizes small/medium and medium/large. The difference sizes are achieved by knitting the sweater in two different gauges on different size needles

SKILLS REQUIRED
- The fronts and back are cast-on as one piece, from right center front to left center front, and worked to the armholes. This eliminates the need to match side seam stripes and weaving in yarn ends at the side seams.
- The center fronts and the collar are faced and the ends are knotted and tucked behind facing.
- tail cast-on
- K2, p2 ribbing
- Bind-off
- Stockinette stitch
- rows of Fair Isle knitting-two times on body and two times on each sleeve.
- stitches (sleeve bind-off) to rows (top few rows of armhole), each side of shoulder.
- Weaving rows to rows for the remainder of sleeve cap and sleeve seams.

Regardless of body measurements, everyone prefers a different finished look. It is helpful to use the “actual measurement of finished garment” to decide which size to make. The following measurements refer to this specific garment to help you find the best fit.

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE
Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride
85% wool - 15% mohair
4 ounces-(113 grams)—190 yards-(173.5 m) each pull skein

A good substitute
Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece—available in 60 colors
80% Cotton, 20% Merino Wool
3.5 ounces-(99.2 grams)—213 yards-(194.7 meters)

For the sample, one skein each of four shades of greens, pinks, purples, and oranges were used =                                              16 skeins
The other colors used are:
Brown 394 yards-(360 m)                                          3 skeins
Red 219 yards-(200 m)                                              2 skeins
Black approximately 94 yards-(86 m)                      1 skein
Ivory approximately 41 yards to 94 yards-(86 m)   1 skein
Total number of skeins used for sample:            23 skeins

For your cardigan to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important. It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.

FOR OTHER SUBSTITUTE YARNS CLICK HERE     check out Hobbii yarns

NOTE:I do not know if there are enough shades of one color in these substitutions. Other options of yarn for this cardigan would be one of the popular yarns used for afghans. Most yarns used for afghans come in gradations of colors.
