TECHNIQUES USED FOR INTHIS PATTERN

Regardless of their age babies and children's actual body measurements vary. It is helpful to use the FINISHED GARMENT MEASUREMENTS, in the chart below, which refers to this specific garment only. It can help you choose the size you prefer.

YARN USED FOR SAMPLE
Brown Sheep Company—Cotton Fine
80% Pima Cotton—20% Merino Wool
1.75 ounces-(50 grams)     —     222 yards-(203 m) each

4(5 - 6) pull skeins

For your cardigan to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important. It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.


FOR A SUBSTITUTE YARN

SUGGESTED NEEDLE SIZE
- Size 3-(3.25 mm) and size 5-(3.75 mm) straight needles; or size needles to obtain the correct gauge
- Size E crochet hook
- Size 3-(3.25 mm) and size 5-(3.75 mm) circular needles, 16-(40.6) inches long if knitting the hat in the round
- 5 double pointed needles, size 5-(3.75 mm), to use as stitch holders and for the crown of hat knit on circular needles.

NOTIONS
- Gauge ruler
- Tracking sheet—included with pattern
- 5 small safety pins for hat on circular needles only
- Tapestry needle
- 6(6 - 7) buttons size .625 inch (1.5 cm)


GAUGE
24 stitches x 34 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch on size 5-(3.75 mm) needles
