Why is the gauge listed in stockinette? Knitting patterns often list gauge in stockinette stitch because it's the most common knitting fabric and it's easier to measure stitches and rows in stockinette than in more complex stitch patterns. It's also an assumption that if you can match the gauge in stockinette, you'll be able to match the gauge in the pattern's specific stitch.
