For your cardigan to be the correct size, it is not the brand of yarn that matters, but the GAUGE that is important. It is best to refer to the yardage to determine how many skeins or balls to purchase.

FOR A SUBSTITUE YARN

- Sizes 5-(3.75 mm) and 7-(4.5 mm) or size needle to obtain the correct gauge
- Spare needle, size 5-(3.75 mm) or smaller for working tucks on neckband
- Size 5-(3.75 mm) circular needle 24 inches-(61 cm) long to work two color one row stripe

-Size E-(3.5 mm) crochet hook for crochet buttons
- Size G-(4 mm) crochet hook for vertical slip stitch stripe

NOTIONS
- Gauge ruler
- Package of ring markers
- One plastic ring 7/8 inch (18 mm) for crochet button
- Cable needle
- One large snap—1.5 inch-(30 mm)

GAUGE
20 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches-(10 cm) in stockinette stitch on size 7- (4.5 mm)

The stitch and row gauges vary somewhat, depending on the pattern stitch, because of the composition of the different stitches. All the pattern stitches will conform to the measurements if you get the correct gauge in stockinette stitch.
